The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case with the Prosecutor General’s Office against four former senior officials of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, accusing them of granting illegal benefits under the government’s ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme.
The case, submitted on 3 June 2025, involves irregularities in the allocation of flats to recipients in the first round of the 4,000-unit ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme. The ACC said its investigation, conducted jointly with the Maldives Police Service, uncovered evidence that certain individuals were wrongfully included among the flat recipients.
The individuals named in the case include former State Minister Akram Kamaluddin, former Senior Executives Mohamed Arif and Shiruam Wahid, and former Director General Ahmed Wishan Naseem. They are being charged under Section 513(g) of the Penal Code for abuse of official position and influence for illegal gain.
The ACC also confirmed that further investigations are ongoing into other potential offenses linked to the case.
The housing scheme, launched under President Mohamed Saleh’s administration, has faced growing scrutiny over allegations of favoritism and misconduct in the beneficiary selection process. The Prosecutor General had previously directed the ACC and police to pursue any criminal offenses related to the allocation of flats.
