The Maldives and China have signed a letter of exchange for the detailed design of a 112-bed hospital to be developed in Villimale’, the Ministry of Health announced today.
This marks the next phase of the project, which was initiated during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to China. The Villimale’ hospital will be the first of its kind in the country, developed with grant aid from the Chinese government.
The initial letter of exchange for a feasibility study was signed in April last year. Following this, a team of Chinese experts conducted a joint feasibility study in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
With the study now completed, the detailed design phase is set to begin soon. At a ceremony held at Dharumavantha Hospital, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muthalib confirmed that construction will move forward once the design work is complete.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdulla Muthalib on behalf of the Maldivian government and Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Maldives, Kong Xianhua, on behalf of the Chinese government.
