The Maldives will continue to work towards protecting the rights of workers and building a sustainable, inclusive labour market, said Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed, Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development.
Speaking on behalf of the Maldives at the 113th International Labour Conference, Minister Haidar emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring social justice and upholding the rights of all workers in the country.
He noted that the government has taken significant steps in recent years to align with the goals of the International Labour Organization (ILO), including the passage of the Workplace Safety and Health Protection Act. The new law, he said, is a clear reflection of the Maldives’ dedication to creating a secure and equitable working environment for all.
Dr. Haidar also stated that the protection of workers' rights and the creation of adequate employment opportunities are central to economic development. He stressed that a nation's progress depends on the health and well-being of its workforce.
In addition, the Maldives has joined the ILO’s Global Coalition for Social Justice and is working closely with both employers and workers to address key labour issues and promote collaborative solutions.
