President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Government's strong commitment to advancing food safety standards in the Maldives, marking World Food Safety Day with a renewed call for collective action.
In a message shared via his official X account, President Muizzu emphasized that food safety is fundamental to both public health and economic resilience. He highlighted the importance of scientific research and evidence-based practices in preventing foodborne illnesses and protecting national well-being, in line with this year’s theme: “Food Safety: Science in Action.”
The President also stressed the need for safe, nutritious, and trustworthy food and urged coordinated efforts across all sectors to support the country’s food safety agenda.
In a separate statement, President Muizzu described the enactment of the Food Safety Act in 2024 as a key milestone in reinforcing national standards. The law expanded the Maldives Food and Drug Authority’s (MFDA) mandate, allowing it to lead efforts in upholding food safety.
He further praised MFDA’s public engagement initiatives, including the “Mukabba” social media campaign, and advocacy targeting policymakers and food businesses, as essential steps in building accountability and awareness.
