The Maldives has marked a historic tourism milestone by welcoming its one millionth tourist of 2025 on June 7, achieving the feat faster than ever before.

Kajal Singh, an Indian national visiting the Maldives for her honeymoon, arrived at Velana International Airport on IndiGo flight 6E 1131 at 12:55 pm. This is her first trip to the country, and she will be staying at Malahini Kuda Bandos.

A special ceremony was held at the airport to commemorate the occasion, organized by Visit Maldives in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

“This milestone fills us with immense pride,” said Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim. “It reflects the success of our destination marketing and the hard work of everyone across the tourism sector.”

Highlighting the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability, Kajal Singh also took part in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's “Five Million Trees Planting Program” by planting a tree at Hulhulé.

MMPRC CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree noted, “This achievement is a clear indicator that we are well on track to reach President Dr. Muizzu’s target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals this year.”

This landmark moment reflects the Maldives' growing global appeal and the strength of its ongoing tourism promotion campaigns.
