The Maldives government is targeting $6 billion in tourism revenue by 2027, Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has said.
In an interview with state media, Minister Thoriq highlighted that achieving the $6 billion milestone is a key goal outlined in the Maldives’ Fifth Tourism Master Plan.
He noted that the government is actively working to enhance both air and sea transport infrastructure to help reach this ambitious target.
Minister Thoriq also pointed out that around 80 per cent of tourists visit the Maldives to experience its natural beauty. He stressed that reaching the \$6 billion goal would significantly boost the national economy by increasing foreign exchange earnings and enabling new development initiatives.
This year, the government aims to attract 2.3 million tourists. The Ministry of Tourism estimates that tourist arrivals will reach one million by Saturday, marking strong progress toward this year’s target.
