Ghana's president Nana Akufo-Addo has become the world's first recipient of a coronavirus vaccine from Covax facility.
Speaking at the live event before receiving a shot of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, Ghana's president has stated that it was important to show that the vaccine is safe by being the first to have it, so that everybody in Ghana can feel comfortable about taking this vaccine. The first lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo also received the Covid-19 vaccine during the event held today.
Covax is led by Gavi the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). Around 145 participating economies are set to receive 337.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines by mid-year through the Covax.
Ghana was the first country to receive vaccines from Covax.
