President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the land reclamation project in Noonu Hen’badhoo will commence in November this year. The assurance was given during his visit to the inhabited islands of South Miladhunmadulu Atoll, where he engaged directly with Hen’badhoo residents.
The President said the project is among the Government’s top development priorities for the year. He noted that final engineering designs are being prepared, given the site’s proximity to the planned harbour wall, and added that consultations have already taken place with the Hen’badhoo Council. The project is expected to be awarded to a contractor by September.
A total of six hectares will be reclaimed under the project, with land designated for housing, infrastructure, and sports facilities in line with the island’s land-use plan. As part of this plan, the President pledged to develop a full-sized football pitch on the reclaimed land and stressed the need for sustainable development.
In addition, President Muizzu highlighted that efforts are underway to expand operations at the island’s health centre, with services expected to run for at least 16 hours daily by the end of the year.
During the visit, the President also inaugurated two new projects: the construction of a mosque and the development of the N. Hen’badhoo Fitness and Recreation Centre.
