President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurated MCGH Opticals today, a new facility established under the Malé City Group of Hospitals to offer opticianry services as part of the Government’s broader healthcare initiative.
The ceremony took place at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where the President toured the facility and handed over prescription glasses to the first three customers served.
MCGH Opticals was launched following the President’s announcement on May 31 to improve public access to high-quality and affordable eyewear. As part of this effort, the Aasandha insurance allowance for prescription glasses was increased to MVR 2,000.
Established and made operational within just two months, the facility offers services including eye prescription assessments, diagnosis of specific conditions, and the dispensing of prescription glasses.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, CEO of Malé City Group of Hospitals, announced plans to extend similar services to Hulhumalé and five regional hospitals starting in August.
