His Excellency Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, was accorded a ceremonial welcome in the Maldives on Monday, marking the beginning of his first state visit since assuming office in September 2024.
The welcoming ceremony was held at Republic Square, where President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu formally received President Disanayaka. The event featured a vibrant cultural performance by students, followed by a ceremonial 21-gun salute by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
National anthems of both nations were played before President Disanayaka inspected the Guard of Honour. The ceremony concluded with the introduction of dignitaries from both the Maldivian and Sri Lankan delegations.
President Disanayaka's visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, which were officially established on 26 July 1965.
