The Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, delivered the national statement today at the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at UN Headquarters in New York from 28–30 July 2025.
In his address, Dr. Naseer urged the international community to uphold diplomacy and multilateralism to end what he described as deliberate acts of genocide committed by Israel in Palestine. He emphasized the need to recognize Palestine’s right to statehood based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Dr. Naseer also called for continued support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and reaffirmed the Maldives’ backing for the Arab Reconstruction Plan.
The conference, mandated by UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/81 and chaired by the Foreign Ministers of France and Saudi Arabia, aims to accelerate the implementation of UN resolutions regarding Palestine and the two-state solution. Originally suspended in June 2025 due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, the three-day session resumed on 28 July.
