A Doğan-class military ship donated by Turkey as free aid has arrived in the Maldives.

The Defence Ministry said a special ceremony will be held to inaugurate the vessel before it enters service. The donation is part of President Mohamed Muizzu’s plan to double the Coast Guard’s size and enhance its capabilities, achieved through strengthened relations with friendly nations.

According to the ministry, the primary role of the vessel will be to safeguard Maldivian waters and support the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Navy in contributing to the security and safety of the Indian Ocean as a responsible international partner.

In preparation for the vessel’s deployment, MNDF personnel have undergone training in Turkey.
