The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has officially taken charge of the largest naval vessel in its fleet, donated by Türkiye.

The handover ceremony took place at the Hulhumalé Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area on Friday, where Turkish Fleet Commander Admiral Kadir Yildiz formally handed the ship to Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, who accepted it on behalf of the MNDF.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu attended the ceremony, unveiling the ship’s name, viewing a video presentation, and signing the ship’s guest book.

The vessel, named Dharumavantha after Sultan Muhammad Ibn Abdullah Siri II, marks the largest addition in MNDF’s history. It is expected to significantly boost the Coast Guard’s operational capacity and reinforce the Maldives’ role in safeguarding security in the Indian Ocean region.
