MP Hussain Ziyad (Fittey) of Vaikaradhoo constituency today criticized the government for the mismatch between its budget claims and public services.

During the debate on the Maldives Intellectual Property Office Bill, Hussain Ziyad highlighted stalled projects on islands, reportedly due to budget shortages, despite newspapers reporting a surplus budget. He urged the government to use available funds to meet people’s basic needs.

Ziyad also pointed out that every government office is overseen by a minister, but Parliament hesitates to hold them accountable. He further noted inconsistent electricity supply despite the reported surplus.

Responding, PNC PG Leader Falah accused the opposition MDP of trying to hinder ministerial services but assured that the government will continue to work closely with the public.
