President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has renamed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the Environmental Regulatory Authority (ERA) under Presidential Directive No. 14/2025.
The change, made under the powers granted by Article 116(a) of the Constitution, places the institution directly under the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, removing its previous governing board oversight.
According to the government, the restructuring aims to better reflect the agency’s core responsibilities and strengthen its ability to regulate environmental matters effectively.
