President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on local councils and institutions to cooperate in serving the public, stressing that political differences should not hinder progress.

Addressing the community of B. Dharavandhoo during his tour of South Maalhosmadulu Atoll, the President warned that prioritizing political interests over community welfare ultimately harms residents. He said his administration is committed to ensuring governance that delivers comprehensive services and prevents such outcomes.

He defended recent amendments to the Decentralization Act, stating they aim to empower communities and, in turn, strengthen local governance. While noting that most councils operate with integrity, he said accountable councils are essential for fulfilling government pledges and that differences of opinion must not obstruct public services.

Outlining development plans for Dharavandhoo, President Muizzu highlighted upcoming projects in education, including eight new classrooms, office space, and a multipurpose hall at Baa Atoll School. He also pledged upgrades to healthcare, sports and recreation facilities, as well as road and harbour development.

He further announced plans to enhance Dharavandhoo Airport, delegating the task to Island Aviation Services through proper legal channels. Concluding, the President reiterated the need for professionalism, equality, and accountability in public service.
