Prominent businessman Champa Mohamed Moosa (Uchchu) has emphasized that development projects are financed by public funds, not from leaders’ personal wealth.

Speaking on an online podcast, Uchchu highlighted challenges in implementing projects in the Maldives, noting that travel and logistics are costly because the country’s dispersed geography makes work slower and more expensive. He added that the Maldives’ dependence on imports also affects dollar earnings, but stressed that projects are funded by the people.

Uchchu further explained that unlike other countries where resources like stone, gravel, and iron are locally available, the Maldives must import most materials, adding to costs and delays.

He reiterated his earlier claim that extending the presidential term could help stabilize the dollar, enabling the government to manage loans, fund projects, and meet public needs more effectively.
