President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated that he has no intention of controlling the media, stressing that he never has and does not plan to do so.
Speaking during a meeting with residents of Nolhivaranfaru as part of his tour of South Thiladhunmathi, the President urged all parties, including the media, to act responsibly. At the same time, the government works to implement projects and fulfil the aspirations of the people.
On the Maldives Media and Broadcast Regulation Bill under review in Parliament, President Muizzu said he has no plans to influence the legislative process and has informed ruling party MPs of his position. He noted that although the bill allows the President to appoint a head for the proposed media commission, he would not exercise that authority.
The President reaffirmed that the media must remain independent, transparent, and free from external influence.
