President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has commended the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for their honesty and dedication as the institution marks its 21st anniversary as a civil service.
In his message on the occasion of the Maldives Police Service Day, the President extended congratulations to the force and expressed gratitude for their tireless service. In a message shared on his official X account, the President commended the Police for working tirelessly around the clock. He highlighted their dedication to serving the people with integrity and moral responsibility, and expressed gratitude for their contributions.
The Maldives Police Service was formally established on September 1, 2004, as a separate civilian institution under the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, marking its distinction from the military. While policing in the Maldives dates back to 1933, the creation of the civilian service in 2004 paved the way for modern policing practices.
Since then, the Police Service has undergone reforms, most notably with the enactment of the Police Service Act in 2020, which emphasized the principles of community policing and strengthened the institution’s role in maintaining peace and security.
President Muizzu thanked the MPS for their continued contributions to the nation and wished them success in their service to the Maldivian people.
