The Government of the Maldives has welcomed the agreement reached on implementing the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war in Gaza.

In a statement issued Friday, the government said the agreement offers a “glimmer of hope” for calm and gives Palestinians a chance to begin the process of healing and restoring peace after years of suffering.

While commending the countries that worked tirelessly to achieve the outcome, the Maldives urged Israel to fully honor its commitments under the agreement, noting that it has repeatedly violated past accords. The government also called for Israeli leaders indicted by the International Criminal Court to be brought to justice.

Reaffirming its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, the Maldives reiterated its call for the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
