Former STO Managing Director Hussain Amr has said that the people will succeed only if those with the power to advocate for them do so with courage and integrity.

Amr made the remarks in a post on X following the resignation of Ahmed Saruvash Adam from the board of the Pension Office. He praised Saruvash for upholding his principles and integrity in stepping down.

Amr also urged the Pension Office board and others facing pressure from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration not to cooperate with what he described as “dubious decisions,” and to instead speak up for accountability and sound policy.

Saruvash resigned in protest over a planned transaction with the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), citing serious concerns about the injection of a government bond from the pension fund and stressing the importance of honesty, integrity, and institutional independence.
