Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir has criticized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, saying he has failed to fulfill his promise of providing housing for 60,000 people within five years.
Speaking at an event in the old Carnival area, Mauroof said no housing projects have begun despite the President’s pledges. He noted that the government’s proposed housing development in Ras Malé is unrealistic, as the area requires crossing a large sea and cannot be connected by a bridge.
He accused the government of wasting USD 600 million on what he called a “huge project” and claimed that only a fraction of the planned land reclamation could be completed within five years.
Mauroof also alleged that MVR 1.8 billion had been misused from the housing budget, calling it taxpayers’ money that had been looted under the current administration.
He urged citizens to join with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on November 17 to hold the government accountable.
