President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with the Fuvahmulah City Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions to discuss the city’s most pressing issues and development priorities.

During the meeting, council members highlighted challenges with essential utility services as a top concern. They urged immediate action to address frequent water cuts and called for the establishment of reliable facilities to test drinking water safety. The Council also raised concerns over power shortages and requested that the new powerhouse under construction be completed and relocated from the current residential area before Ramadan.

Other priorities included completing the planned office complex to house all government offices under one roof, and introducing a mechanism for Fuvahmulah City to receive a share of the GST and TGST revenues generated locally. The Council further proposed that the City Hotel project, currently managed by MACL, be implemented in collaboration with the Local Council Authority.

Additional concerns included the airport expansion project, improved waste management, the replacement of non-functional waste vehicles, and the need for new housing solutions — including the allocation of a nearby uninhabited island for development.

President Muizzu and accompanying ministers addressed the concerns, with state-owned enterprise heads providing updates on the progress of ongoing projects in Fuvahmulah. The Council assured its full cooperation and support for government initiatives.
