Former STO Managing Director Hussain Amr has criticized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, calling him a wasteful president due to the government’s spending on development projects.

In a post on X, Amr said every project under President Muizzu is “a photo,” with each “photo” representing debt that burdens the people. He expressed concern over the mounting expenditures and debt arising from government projects, warning that citizens will face long-term financial consequences.

Amr’s remarks come after the government awarded MVR 658.7 million worth of projects to companies linked to PNC MPs, out of 206 projects distributed without a bidding process. The projects include contracts to White Links Pvt Ltd, owned by the wife of Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem, two companies owned by Thinadhoo North MP Saudullah Hilmi, Swift Engineering and Mims Construction, MYNA Sports Field owned by Ahmed Thoriq, MP for Mahibadhoo, and Altec owned by Thulusdhoo MP Ibrahim Naseem.

The government has faced criticism from the opposition and some members of the public for awarding projects without following proper procurement procedures.
