The Election Commission (EC) has stated that individuals will not be registered into any political party without their knowledge or approval.
The clarification came during a meeting of the Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee. EC President Mohamed Zahid informed members that, starting this year, all party admissions and resignations will be processed through the e-faas system.
Zahid explained that this digital system ensures transparency by preventing any individual from being listed in more than one party. Anyone wishing to join or leave a party must now submit their request through the e-faas portal, where it will be visible to the person, the party, and the commission.
He added that a person will only be admitted to a party if they explicitly confirm their decision. Zahid also noted that the commission will remove individuals from party registries if the respective party fails to take action within the required timeframe.
