First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has said that providing State employment opportunities for persons with disabilities reflects a strong national commitment to upholding human dignity.

She made the remarks at the inauguration of the “Fahi Programme”, an initiative by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) aimed at creating job opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady said such programmes reaffirm the principle that all Maldivians are equal, while offering practical solutions to the long-standing grievances and challenges faced by many citizens. She noted that persons with disabilities have historically made meaningful contributions to national development, and stressed the need for society to shift its perceptions by offering respect, support, and opportunities that allow individuals to live dignified, self-sufficient lives.

The Fahi Programme is part of the current Administration’s broader policy to expand employment opportunities for persons with disabilities and support income generation. During the event, the First Lady presented appointment letters to 30 individuals selected to join MPL under the initiative.

The ceremony also saw the official launch of accessibility features on MPL’s website, inaugurated by Minister of Social and Family Development Dr Aishath Shiham.

MPL presented a commemorative gift to the First Lady in recognition of her dedication to promoting inclusivity and empowerment. The gift was handed over by the company’s CEO, DCP (Retired) Mohamed Rishwan.
