The Election Commission (EC) has announced that local council elections and Women's Development Committee (WDC) elections will be held on April 4 next year.
According to the EC, members will be elected to 226 constituencies across the country. The Commission has also opened applications to recruit more than 7,000 officials to work at polling stations, with interested individuals required to apply through e-pass before 15:00 on the 21st of this month.
Vacancies are also open for election-related roles in Human Resources, Administration, Media, Public Relations, Information Technology, Finance, and Legal. Applicants must submit the completed form and required documents to the Commission via email.
Political parties have already begun preparations for the upcoming elections, with several opening candidate nominations.
This year’s elections will be held under the amended Decentralization Act, which abolished Atoll Councils—meaning there will be no election for Atoll Council President in the 2026 council vote.
