Maldivian students planning to go back to Malaysia raises their frustration over the on arrival fee change for Malaysia quarantine.

Malaysia closed its borders due to quarantine, a lot of Maldivan students came back to Maldives from special flights organised by the government.

On 1st of September Malaysia has reopened schools, hence a lot of Maldivian students who are studying in Malaysia started traveling back to Malaysia following the set guidelines by the Malaysian government. These updated guidelines were recently updated and published by the Malaysian government.

As per the updates guideline, any foreigners entering Malaysia has to pay a fee of 5070 ringgits, which is 1,267 USD. which caused a stir in the viber group of Maldives embassy in Malaysia. Maldivian students raised concerns over the sudden changes in the guidelines as a challenge to cater at a very last minute, as most of them have already booked tickets as well. Through the frustration a lot of students requested support from the Embassy.

Regarding this, the Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia said that their hands are tied as these major changes come from the Malaysian government for all the foreign arrivals.

Currently, on arrival to Malaysia all foreigners have to pay 2100 Ringgit for quarantine, 2600 Ringgit as operational cost, 250 Ringgit as covid test and 120 Ringgit for covid test after quarantine, hence a total of 5070 Ringgits, which will be around 1,267 USD.
