According to the Italy’s Health Ministry data, the number of positive cases on Thursday rose by 2,548.

Italian authorities have said that more than 118,000 people were tested on Thursday, hence the increase in positive cases are partly because of increased testing.

Italy was the first in Europe to be overwhelmed by the Covid-19. After Italy started reporting a higher number of new daily cases, some regions decided to tighten the safety rules, including wearing face masks mandatory, especially when it is difficult to maintain social distancing.

Italy has reached a total of 317,409 infections nationwide and the death of 35,918 people nationwide.

While a nationwide lockdown started to ease in May, schools reopened in mid-September after six months of closure.
