State Electric Company of the Maldives (STELCO) has today launched a “Save Energy” campaign, promoting saving energy for the upcoming hottest days of the Iruvai season.

Speaking at the special launching event held today morning, the Managing Director of STELCO Hassan Mughnee stated that the campaign intends to create more awareness as well as minimize the charges for electricity bills.

He added that each year many complaints raise through the first couple months of the year in regards to the increase in electricity bill charges, caused due to the hottest days of the Iruvai season. Hence the campaign will support increasing public awareness on the causes of the increase in electricity bill charges and support in addressing the matter in an effective way.

Speaking further Mughnee also encouraged the public to economize electricity along with saving energy while using electricity.

“Past statistics show that electricity cost can be cut down by 15 percent with necessary measures taken. And we want to pass on the information to the public and increase awareness on economizing electricity,” said Mughnee.

To expand the campaign, STELCO plans to run different awareness programs and promotional activities including interactive sessions through TV, and radio channels as well as social media.
