The Sri Lankan Air Force has confirmed that Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's flight to Sri Lanka was arranged in accordance with the constitutional powers of the President.

In a statement, the Air Force said that the flight was conducted with the permission of the Ministry of Defence, Immigration, Customs, and all relevant authorities of Sri Lanka. President Gotabaya arrived at Katunayaka airport accompanied by his wife and two bodyguards, the statement read.



As per reports, Gotabaya's military plane landed at Velana International Airport at 3:05 am.

However, the government of the Maldives has yet to comment on the matter.

President Gotabaya was welcomed at the Velana International Airport by the President of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed. Upon his arrival in Sri Lanka, Gotabhaya was taken out of the airport under tight security measures.
