The detained period extended for the Man arrested on suspicion to have taken part in terrorist activities in Syria.

The 34-year-old man arrested had arrived in the Maldives on Thursday 15th October and the individual is suspected to have taken part in terrorist activities in Syria. The Criminal Court today ordered an extension to his detained period for seven days.

The Man was arrested last night, and in regards to his arrest, the Commissioner of Police has said that the man appears on the potential list of Maldivian Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTF) as well.

Police have checked his home and the investigation is continued with him under custodial.

Meanwhile, the President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has vouched to eliminate extremism acts leading to terrorism in the Maldives. From which a person has been arrested for allegedly recruiting Maldivians for Foreign wars and terrorism.

It has been recorded that from the 243 IS terrorists arrested in Afghanistan last year, a few Maldivians were amongst the arrested.

As per the Counter-Terrorism Centre, so far 173 Maldivian have left for the Syrian war, meanwhile, 423 Maldivians are recorded to have attempted to travel overseas to join terrorist activities in Iraq and Syria.
