The data collected so far from this year’s census shows that the local population is at 355331, while the foreign population stood at 97164.

In 2014, the population of the locals was 338434, while the total number of foreigners stood at 63637.

The census also showed an increase of 33527 foreigners living in the Maldives compared to the 2014 census total.

The Statistics Bureau of Maldives said it will call and reach out to those unreachable physically, or collect data from inaccessible places.

Population statisticians have advised that the most appropriate way to complete the census is to contact them and collect the information as it becomes available. The Bureau is also scheduled to conduct a survey to assess post-enumeration quality from now until November.
