Parliament Member for the Maradhoo constituency, Ibrahim Shareef has reassured that the government is not going to give up part of the Maldives, and will not do such a thing.

He made such statements while debating a resolution moved by Maduvvary Constituency MP Adam Sharif on the issue of the Chagos Islands.

Debating the resolution moved by Adam Shareef, Ibrahim Shareef said Chagos Islands was neither a place in the UK nor a place in Mauritius.

"Whether the British claim the Chagos Islands or Mauritius, it doesn't mean that a part of the Maldives would be lost. They can't claim what they don't have. I regret that some people are misleading,” Ibrahim Shareef explained.

Shareef said the government is not going to give up a part of the Maldives and that is very clear. The Maldivian government cannot and has not agreed to give up a single inch of the Maldivian territory without the consent of the Parliament, he said.

The resolution moved by Maduvvary Constituency MP Adam Sharif was passed in Parliament today. Many members who debated the resolution expressed concern that the Maldives could lose part of the country through the Chagos Islands issue.
