While the Chagos case is pending at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), Presidential Spokesperson Miuvan Mohammed has said that the Maldives has no influence from India in the change of stance on the Mauritius issue.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Presidential Office tonight, Spokesperson Miuvan Mohammed said that the decision was the Maldives on its own. There is no influence from India or any other country in changing the decision of the Maldives, he said.

"It's not that our stance has changed dramatically, and or foreign policies have undergone a major shift enough to conduct a major investigation,” Miuvan said.

Miuvan further said the government's decision will not disrupt relations between the Maldives and any other country. Instead, the relationship will become stronger as the information has been disclosed from the beginning, he said. Nothing about the case is done in secret, he said.
