Speaking in the parliament today, Rozaina harshly criticized the former President, the current speaker of the parliament, and the current President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Mohamed Nasheed. Her greatest criticism today was against Nasheed’s refusal to lengthen the duration of a debate in the parliament.

“All members will be happy when the parliament is run according to the rules. But that isn’t how it’s done here. Now the rules are merely some words on paper. It’s as if the rules in the hands of the speaker and that in the hands of the members are two different things,” said Rozaina.

“In today’s sitting of the Committee of the Whole House, when members asked for the duration to be extended, even with the support of the majority, the speaker refused,” Rozaina added.

Furthermore, Rozaina alleged that there was discrimination when it came to giving members the chance to speak in debates.

Rozaina stated that she had been in the parliament for 15 years and what is seen now is the most totalitarian speaker in the history of the parliament. She said that it is sad that she had to say this and that the members had been very patient in the last 4 years.
