Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof has claimed that this government will not neglect any island for having a small population.

Mahloof said this while speaking at the campaign ceremony of Fareeda Khalid, MDP’s candidate for N. Magoodhoo’s council by-election.

Last night at this ceremony held at the harbor area of N. Magoodhoo, Mahloof pointed out that the best proof that this government will not neglect any low-populated island is N. Magoodhoo itself. He said that the people of Magoodhoo will bear witness to this.

Mahloof stated that votes are not the only goal of this government. And that the people of all islands want development, sports facilities, and social wellness. He added that therefore this government is not focusing on islands that can contribute more votes.

“When the election is here, the citizens will decide who to vote for. Our responsibility of us now is to serve the citizens faithfully without discrimination. We come to this island because we want to,” said the minister.

According to MDP, the government has spent more than 100 million on projects in Magoodhoo. So far, the government has constructed a mosque and a new power station on the island. In addition to that, projects are underway on building a garbage dump and a harbor.
