The President's Office has declared that president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government will not exert influence on the parliament.

At the news conference held today, the spokesperson of the President's Office, Miuvaan Mohamed stated this in responding to allegations that MDP's president and ex-president of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed is going to be fired from his position as speaker of the parliament.

Answering the questions of journalists, Miuvaan stated that those who can comment on the internal affairs of MDP are the party itself.

"Me speaking about the parliament won't be right. Even for things regarding MDP, it would be best for the party itself to speak. The government won't exert influence on the work done at the parliament. Dealing with issues of lack of trustworthiness of the speaker of the parliament is not something the government will do," Miuvaan said.

While two factions have formed within MDP, one faction supports president Solih while the other support Nasheed. Members of the former have been publicly calling for the firing of the speaker of parliament.
