Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has stated that the private sector's role is important in building an educated generation.

He stated this with regard to the Ministry of Higher Education handing over the project of developing a junior college in N. Kendhikulhudhoo to Villa Educational Services.

The minister stated that this is a dream of the government and great hope. He said that in the work done by the government to make the youth an educated and talented generation, the role played by the private sector is important.

As one of the projects started by the Ministry of Higher Education to build higher education facilities in different areas of the Maldives under the government's Strategic Action Plan, the contract to develop the junior college in Kendhikulhudhoo was signed today.

This project is one done in a public-private partnership with the project handler funding it, and handling the development and running of the establishment under the build-finance-operate model.

The planned junior college specializes in tourism and hospitality industry courses at different levels of higher education. But different vocational courses in other fields can be taught there. For the construction of the college, an 86,000 square feet plot of land has been allocated in N. Kendhikulhudhoo.

When all phases of this project are complete, there will be an institute block in the college for education as well as an accommodation block. For tourism and hospitality training courses and work experience, a tourist facility will be constructed alongside the institute. In addition to this, there will be at least 6 classrooms, an ICT laboratory, an auditorium, a library, a management area, a staff room, a student services area, and meeting rooms and study rooms. Plus, for the fitness of the students, an activity center where various sports can be played and various essential services like a prayer room, toilets, and lifts.

According to the agreement signed today, work on the development should finish and the college should be open in 27 months. This agreement is for a 50-year period.
