Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) declared that India was the one who helped Maldives on November 3, 1988.

In a statement released on the occasion of Victory Day, MRM stated that friendly neighboring India was the first to aid us on November 3 out of all countries that were asked for help by the government. The party has thanked the government and people of India in the name of the people of the Maldives.

The party led by former President Maumoon, MRM, said in their statement that the terrorists wanted to take over the whole country and that for about 18 hours, the capital Male' was under the control of the enemies of the nation. With the enemy's bullets, 8 Maldivian soldiers were martyred and many got wounded but the soldiers remained steadfast in performing their national duty faithfully and with fidelity, the statement read.

"The terrorist attack in the Maldives on November 3 of 1988 was an attack made by a small group of Maldivians and a Sri Lankan terrorist organization working together. That attack is the most powerful, horrific, and dangerous attack marked by the Maldives in its history," MRM said in their statement.

MRM called for the people of Maldives to be united and stay united and work together to prevent any danger the country might face.
