Speaker of parliament, president of MDP, and ex-president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, has said that defamation of Sikka Ahmed Ismail Manik, who was convicted for planning the terrorist attack on November 3, 1988, is unacceptable.

Nasheed said this today, while yesterday was Victory Day, the national holiday to celebrate the victory over the terrorists who attacked on November 3, 1988. On the occasion of Victory Day, many people expressed their opinions on social media and news media and spoke of Sikka's participation in the attack.

Nasheed said defaming Sikka on the occasion of Victory Day is unacceptable.

"The confession taken from him after torturing him and bringing him to the brink of death is a great deception," said Nasheed.

Sikka Ahmed Ismail Manik was sentenced to 15 years for the November 3 attack and spent two years in jail. However, he was pardoned by former President Maumoon when he returned to the country after spending time in India and London for medical reasons.
