Member of parliament for Maradhoo constituency, Ibrahim Shareef has stated that the speaker of parliament or any other member of parliament working for another country is not allowed under the constitution.

Shareef said this in response to former attorney general Dr. Mohamed Munavvar's criticism of speaker of parliament and ex-president Mohamed Nasheed representing Sri Lanka at the COP27 summit.

Munavvar criticized Nasheed for representing another nation instead of Maldives, "The speaker of the parliament of the Maldives, getting a salary taken from the people's money, has joined another nation's delegation to represent that nation. Where is Maldives? Where is faithfulness to the Maldivian state?"

In addition to Munavvar, former attorney general Azima Shukoor has criticized Nasheed too, for representing Sri Lanka instead of Maldives.

The parliament has stated today that no state money will be used for Nasheed's COP27 trip.

Nasheed has left the country yesterday to participate in the COP27 summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh, a resort town in Egypt.

COP (Conference of Parties) Summits are annual international conferences held to make key decisions on climate issues. Important decisions on aiding vulnerable countries and fighting climate change are made in these conferences.
