Ex-President and leader of the opposition party PPM, Abdulla Yameen has said that if MDP had any shame, they would be staying home now instead of speaking about democracy.

Yameen said this while answering questions from journalists at the area where the PPM internal elections were held in Male' today.

Responding to a journalist's question regarding MDP saying the current government has not interfered with PPM's elections, Yameen said that PPM had plastic boxes as ballot boxes and not cement mixers. And that MDP should not speak about democracy as the party has sold out the whole country.

Yameen said that if MDP had even a little bit of shame, instead of speaking about democracy, they would be staying home.

Yameen stated that PPM's internal elections are very democratic and he asked MDP to take it as an example to base their own roadmap.

While Yameen has said this, economic minister Fayyaz Ismail has pointed out that the fact that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih did not send police squads to interfere with the election shows the political freedom of the country now.

MDP has always maintained that the government interfered with its activities during Yameen's presidency. Back then, MDP even had to resort to putting votes in cement mixers as the police took their ballot boxes.
