Member of Parliament for Addu Meedhoo constituency Rozaina Adam has criticized the Speaker of Parliament, ex-president Mohamed Nasheed for representing Sri Lanka in the ongoing climate conference in Egypt, the COP27 summit.

Other politicians have criticized the actions of Nasheed too.

In a tweet expressing her disappointment with the Speaker, Rozaina posed a question to the Attorney General, asking if the Speaker of Parliament can represent another nation in a summit that includes the Maldives.

Rozaina stated that she could not logically accept this as something that can be done. She added that even if the Parliament said it did not pay for Nasheed's expenses, the issue is not over.

Nasheed left for Sharm El-Sheikh, a resort town in Egypt, on Friday to participate in the COP27 summit held there. The Parliament has released a statement saying the state did not spend on Nasheed's trip.
