Minister of the President's Office, Ali Shiyam has stated that the biggest aim of the budget proposed by the government to the Parliament is fulfilling the promises of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and solving issues that have not been solved for ages in the Maldives.

Speaking to state media regarding the budget, Shiyam stated that the reason this is the biggest budget proposed so far is because it is related to the promises made by the President to the people.

Shiyam said that with this budget, all of the President's promises will be fulfilled and the hopes of the people reached. He added that most of what is in the budget are parts allocated for services that benefit the people, and that the planned projects will improve the people's lives.

Responding to criticism of the size of the budget from the opposition, Shiyam said that those who will decide whether it is large or small are the people. And that when you judge it as large, you should see the benefits the people will get from it in necessary areas like housing, education and healthcare.

"We see what will happen to the people. We see it from the changes coming to Thiladhunmathi. It's something that will bring a great change to the whole Maldives. We see what happens when the whole country is connected with a travel network. We see what happens when you get health services easily while staying in your island," said Minister Shiyam.

The total amount of the state budget projected for 2023 is MVR 42,680,269,914. The debate regarding the budget has commenced in the Parliament.
