Member of Parliament for the Ihavandhoo constituency, Mohamed Shifau has stated that former president Abdulla Yameen did nothing for fishermen during his term except handing them debt bills.

Shifau said this pointing at the promises Yameen is making to fishermen after meeting fishermen on his current trip to Addu City.

Shifau stated that there was nothing done for fishermen during Yameen's presidency. In contrast, according to Shifau, what the fishermen were given were debt bills whose payments were completed by President Solih's government.

"When this president Yameen talks about fishermen, I wonder what he did when he was in power for five years. What did he do to develop the fishing industry? There is not a single thing to be seen. Except for one thing. That is, handing them debt bills. In his five-year term, nothing was done for fishermen except give them debt bills after buying their fish," said Shifau.

In addition to this, Shifau said it is the current government that is buying all the fish caught by fishermen. And that to improve the industry, the development of cold storage facilities and work for increasing capacity is being done by this government in various islands like Kooddoo and Felivaru. Shifau stated that proof of this work is seen in the budget projected for next year which was proposed to the Parliament.
