Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has stated that the wondrous work done by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih under his solid foreign policy has been accepted globally.

Speaking on a TV program, Shahid said that when this government came into power, the foreign affairs of the Maldives were in a very poor state. As such, Maldives was disconnected from the international world and was in an isolated state.

"(Maldives) Was completely isolated. Got about 40 votes in the Security Council election. The international world showed they had no trust in the then government. UN assemblies were not attended (by then President) for 5 years... Political alliances with nations ended... Left the Commonwealth.. Power was being wielded over independent institutions in the country," said Shahid.

Shahid said four years back, the world saw the Maldives differently, but the international world was accepting the feelings of the citizens.

Shahid stated that President Solih made it a policy to work with all of the nations of the world. And that the world has accepted the work done under such policies made with the qualities of kind rulership.

"In these past 4 years, these policies were being applied without discrimination. The state has been run the way climate diplomacy states do to promote human rights under the rule of law. Based on these things was the state-run, within the framework of the law. The world has accepted the wondrous work done based on these things," said Shahid.

In his talk, Shahid noted how the Maldives, which was isolated and alone four years ago, had proudly flown its flag at the very top of the UN Assembly last year.
