Health Minister Ahmed Naseem has stated last night that the decision has been made to bring buggy ambulances for small, low populated islands.

Speaking to state media last night, the Minister said this decision was made because the ambulances that have been brought through STO have been incompatible for small islands. And that the order for 25 buggy ambulances from China has been made and that they will be received soon.

"They are expected to be received in the coming year's first quarter. We are getting China's grant assistance too and we can get them under this," said Naseem.

Naseem stated that when the buggy ambulances are received, they will be sent to the small islands. And that such islands will not be neglected from ambulance services. Naseem said that the health centres in small islands are first aid centres and that they cannot provide all services. And that buggy ambulances are being brought for such islands.

"Buggy ambulances have the means to provide care too. But since they are small, it will be easier to drive them within the (small) islands," said Naseem.

STO has been tasked by the Health Ministry to supply ambulances. With the project completed, 96 ambulances have been brought to the country and have been sent to the islands.
