Former president and current Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated there is not enough in the reserve for the country's basic needs.

Speaking in today's debate in the Parliament on the report from the Budget Committee, Nasheed said that Maldives' Foreign Currency Reserve is running low.

Nasheed said that there was not enough even for the coming weeks. And that it was not right for MPs to ignore and contradict these facts.

Nasheed said that it would be a great deception for the people if he, as the Speaker of the Parliament, did not bring it up.

"When we speak another way in the Parliament while we do not have enough money for basic needs for the coming weeks and months, it would be a great deception for the citizens of the Maldives," Nasheed said in the Parliament.

While the debate about the budget report is ongoing in the Parliament, the Budget Committee has added an additional MVR 160 million to the budget. So the total budget is now at MVR 42.8 billion.
