Addu Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef has asked the Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed not to speak in ways that make the public lose trust in the country's finance system.

Nasheed had said that Maldives' Foreign Currency Reserve is running very low and Maldives is headed towards bankruptcy. Criticizing Nasheed's words, Shareef said that claiming the country is going bankrupt while in a position of responsibility is something that can take away the trust in the state's finance system. And that it is something that can make the nation fall into a dangerous state.

Therefore, Shareef has asked Nasheed not to speak in such ways.

Nasheed had recently said in the Parliament that Maldives is going bankrupt and that he does not wish to be the Speaker of Parliament when that happens. Nasheed called on the government to make the financial situation of the state clear without any obfuscation.

While Nasheed and his supporters speak this way, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has been denying their allegations of state bankruptcy. Ameer stated that these were lies told for political purposes.
